A Message From the Board of Directors

On behalf of the Board of Directors for the Halton Fresh Food Box, I would like to announce that as of June 2021, the Halton Fresh Food Box Program will be run by Kerr Street Missions.

As we all know, this year has been unprecedented for upheaval and change. At HFFB, this was especially true. With the lockdowns changing and safety our top priority, we were unable to offer the program and keep our highly valued volunteers safe. In March 2020, we also underwent a staff change which due to COVID was next to impossible to fix.

After much consideration, we approached Kerr Street Missions, one of our incredible partners for many years, to see if they could take on the Program. Fortunately for Halton, they said yes.

Please know that we tried everything we could to keep the Halton Fresh Food Box program running in the way we’ve served you for over 10 years. We know that the program is in good hands with Kerr Street Missions and as they get on their feet with the program, you’ll be back to fresh fruits and veg in no time!

More than anything, we would like to thank our incredible site coordinators, volunteers and many community farming partners for helping us to help Halton eat healthier! We couldn’t have delivered the thousands of boxes we have without you!

We greatly appreciate your patience as we’ve navigated this complicated process and we look forward to Kerr Street Missions being able to help you!

Yours in eating healthy,

Elizabeth Plouffe

Board, Chair

Who are we?

Every community needs access to healthy affordable foods to meet the nutrition/health needs of all its members. With the Halton Fresh Food Box all residents of Halton region, but particularly those living on limited incomes, seniors, and new Canadians, have improved access to good quality, mainly locally grown, more affordable fruits and vegetables delivered right to their own neighbourhood.

There are over 27,000 people living in Halton region on limited incomes which compromise their ability to feed themselves and their families a healthy diet. Food support programs are very challenged to incorporate fresh fruit and vegetables in their donation boxes.
